Gilbert Stuart, American, early 19th century. 4" wide scoop with fluted edge and ball motif, 22K gold leaf over red. This frame is named after Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828), the most celebrated American portrait painter of his time. Stuart used this design, among others, to frame his commissioned paintings for the White House.
