Prendergast

Prendergast, American, early 20th century. 4" wide, warm silver leaf over red, engraved black panel. This moulding is named after the artist/frame maker Charles Prendergast (1863-1948), the brother of painter Maurice. Charles was inspired by Asian art and incorporated these elements into his work. The gilding echoes the style of another great frame maker, Max Kuehne (1880-1968) who used similar motifs and frequently produced his designs in a warm silver leaf finish.
