Sully, American, early to mid-19th century. 4" wide, 22K gold leaf over red. This frame is named after Thomas Sully (1783-1872), an English-born artist who worked in the Philadelphia area and was famous for his portraits and historical paintings. He frequently chose this simple, angular moulding for his work.
