Dutch Ripple

Dutch Ripple, 17th century. 5 1/4" wide, antique black over red with warm 22K gold leaf inner edge. This model uses a variety of ebonized ripple patterns with a warm gilt edge. It is ironic that most Dutch-style ripple frames were originally manufactured in Germany, Spain and other countries instead of Holland. The frames are frequently referred to as "Dutch" due to their popularity in enhancing Old Master paintings from the Netherlands.
