Marie Laurencin, French, 17th century.
2 3/4" wide, warm antique 22K gold leaf over red, hand carved. This frame design was first used during the periods of Louis XIII and Louis XIV and has floral motifs and fanned lambrequins in its corner carving. It has enhanced the work of French Rococo painters such as Boucher and Fragonard as well as such 19th- and 20th-century artists as Cassatt and its namesake, Marie Laurencin.
